More Car Owners becoming uninsured

Economic downturn driving more motorists to the ranks of uninsured...

"Approximately one in six drivers across the U.S. may be driving uninsured by 2010, according to a recent study from Insurance Research Council (IRC).

Although the estimated percentage of uninsured motorists decreased nationally, from 14.9 percent in 2003 to 13.8 percent in 2007, the research group says the recent economic downturn is expected to trigger a sharp rise in the uninsured motorist rate.

The study, Uninsured Motorists, 2008 Edition, estimates the percentage of uninsured drivers countrywide and by state for the period 2005 to 2007......" more uninsured motorists

Insurance a key part of my financial plan

Why is Insurance a key factor in my overall insurance plan?

There are few financial topics more important (and, sadly, more mundane) than insurance. No matter how diligently you build your financial empire, failure to purchase adequate insurance can put you in a desperate hole in a heartbeat. On the other side of the coin, few things will attack your investment returns more insidiously than paying too much for insurance or, worse, paying for insurance you don't need.

So, you may be thinking now, "I don't need insurance." To that we say: Most likely you do. If you own things that will be very hard to replace without facing severe financial hardship, these things ought to be insured. In general, think of insurance as "hardship avoidance," not "convenience" or "hitting the jackpot."..... Insurance Basics

Kentucky's Workers Compensation Rates Drop

Kentucky Insurance

"A filing most Kentucky insurance carriers will use to develop rates for workers' compensation coverage shows another decrease in loss costs for 2007, according to Gov. Ernie Fletcher.

The state Office of Insurance approved the National Council on Compensation Insurance Inc. filing and will become effective Oct. 1.

"We are encouraged to see the continuing improvement in the market," said Fletcher. "This is good news for Kentucky employers since workers' compensation insurance is a large part of the cost of doing business. However, it's even better news for Kentucky's workforce since it shows a continuing trend of fewer workplace injuries."

Motorcycle Deaths in KY rising

Motorcycle Deaths in Kentucky Rising
Motorcycle Safety :
"Out of the 1,025 motorcycle crashes reported in Kentucky through July 19, there were 57 fatalities, according to state police. In the previous full year, there were 1,776 crashes and 97 fatalities.

It's uncertain whether the increase in deaths this year is attributable to more motorcyclists on the road, because Kentucky doesn't have a helmet law or another reason. But state troopers will be trained to teach motorists about sharing the road, driving sober and older motorcycle riders.

Jefferson County reported that the motorcycle fatalities there have already surpassed last year's. There were 14 fatalities out of Jefferson County's 172 motorcycle crashes, whereas in 2006 there were 9 such deaths.

Kentucky's statistics follow the trend nationally.

The number of motorcycle accidents has increased each year since 1997, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Most motorcycle riders in Kentucky have not been required to protect their heads since the state's mandatory helmet law was repealed in 1998....." from Insurance Journal
